Food Pantry to Dish Nook
Reveal
With no travels here other than weekend visits with family and a few day trips for shopping, we've been on an ongoing "staycation" which has allowed us to finish up the "dish nook" and finally unpack most of our dishes. The nook is a small space, only 9'1" X 4'5" overall.
Everyone knows I love dishes, and I've collected a few! Some are from friends and family, some from travels brought back as souvenirs. My dream was to have space to store and display my special pieces and collections and make it easy to collect what I need to use. I
wanted shelves from ceiling to floor. I put pen to paper and drew up my custom design plans along with ideas to give to my cabinet man. He is in high demand so it's been a long wait, but definitely worth it. He custom built all cabinets in our previous home, did the kitchen renovations there and built all the cabinets in this house. He's the only craftsman I trust to do the work. Another trusted helper for me was Miss Courtney. Here she is ready with the first of many dishes we unpacked to store in our new nook!

Pantry Before
Jim removed the wire shelving to use in storage. Next, we called the electrician to wire for lighting. I haven't decided if I will use the chandelier I purchased, we measured and now what was once centered, it is now not! The cabinets are different in size so it threw the center off.
A little bit of a tight squeeze!

After the stained solid oak countertop was installed, we hired the same man who did the tile in our last house and all the tile work in this house to do the ceramic tile backsplash. This is the same tile used in the kitchen, keeping a uniform flow throughout.

Miss Courtney helped with a decision, which runner to add to the Dish Nook. I loved her suggestion...
This was one of those projects that just seemed to never end. Just little things holding up work, ordering materials that took forever to come in. I am very pleased with how it turned out. I would have liked to have a little more space but not possible with this footprint. Now, I would imagine you are asking, where is she storing her food! I'll share that with you next time.

Dish Nook
Oh my! 🎶 "So this is love..."🎶 (from Disney's Cinderella). Emily, this is gorgeous! You won't ever need worry about dishes clamoring off unsteady shelves with what you have here! I love the shallow dish rack display. That will be so much fun to change as you wish! I didnt realize you had so much Soleil, even though I know you're an avid Quimper collector. This storage space is stunning. Miss Courtney served you very well through this project, and looks right at home among the collections! Happy March!
ReplyDeleteI am in heaven looking at this nook. It’s just perfect and I’d love to play in there - looking at each thing and arranging -rearranging-using-each thing. I’m writing a story now about how our “things” like dishes and silver and tablecloths are creative pieces of art that add joy and beauty to our lives. It’s gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWow Emily, kudos to you for creating a dish pantry. It is beautiful and a lovely way to showcase your treasured collections. The blue is so pretty. I know it was quite the process, it so worth it. It is amazing to see your prized collections on display. Miss Courtney was quite the helper and cute too. Enjoy your pantry makeover. ReplyDeleteA tad of dish envy here! What a fantastic upgrade to your space. The dishes look beautiful displays in that way and so easy for you to fish them out for use elsewhere. You're lucky to have a wonderful cabinet guy you can trust. He certainly came through for you this time. I have to say that totes are the best things for hauling things about from one shelf to another. Much easier to handle than boxes and I can see you have the same notion! Well done. Now, on to spring!
ReplyDeleteOh Emily, what a gorgeous transformation of your pantry to dish nook. Your dishes are displayed so artfully. That French blue pop of color was such a beautiful choice and the runner adds such a warmth to the space. I was wondering about the food storage and I’ll look forward to seeing that next time.

ReplyDeleteEmily, I have dish nook envy! I'm so excited for you to have this fabulous, organized space. You and your cabinet maker did an amazing job, my friend. This space is not only extremely functional, but it allows for gorgeous display. Well done! Love the French blue and the runner. You are going to truly enjoy having everything in sight and handy.
ReplyDeleteThat's a cool looking dish nook, the best dish nook I've seen in years.
ReplyDeleteOh, Emily! Your pantry is stunning! I love everything about it. I think it's so nice to be able to see all your pretty collections in one spot. It's so pretty it really doesn't need a door on it. Happy Mardi Gras!
ReplyDeleteEmily - the dish nook is stunning. I love the blue shelving - it just pops. We did a plate pantry in the new house. I don't think I have posted it yet. Once my husband said he was worried that I had more plates than food stored - haha - but he gave in to a room for my lovelies. Your collection of MC looks fabulous. Enjoy this gorgeous room.
ReplyDeleteOh Emily, I LOVE this! What a beautiful niche and display for your treasured dishes. I love the cheery pop of the blue wall as a backdrop. Who needs food storage when you can have a dream dish pantry instead? 😉 Mary @ Home is Where the Boat Is
