Venice, Italy

The Carnival of Venice for 2022 began on Saturday, February 12 and ends today, Tuesday, March 1. Carnival ends on Shrove Tuesday, or Mardi Gras, which is the day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. A world-famous festival know for its elaborate masks and costumes. Since we haven't traveled before Covid I am going to the archives for photos from a previous post from one of our trips to Italy. With a little help and fun from BeFunky, Miss Courtney joins us on this fabulous trip to Italy for the Venizia Carnival.

We traveled by train from Rome to Venice. Jim is standing on a bridge over the Grand Canal before we hopped on a vaporetto, a water bus to St. Mark's Square.

Our hotel was located on Piazza
San Marco. My sister stayed here on her trip and highly recommended the hotel. When I called for reservations I mentioned this and on our arrival we received a beautiful welcome basket from the management. How nice was that!

Outside our window was St. Mark's Basilica.

I loved hearing the bells chime

The masks and costumes were stunning!

Well, you know I couldn't go to Venice and not take a Gondola ride!

Meet my Gondolier, Marco. After this trip he appeared on the cover of Smithsonian Magazine.
Marco was very charming!

When we checked out of our hotel an escort was provided to the water taxi to get to the Vaporetto for our ride back to the train station. Then it was back to Rome

This was a short trip and good excuse to return one day. Thank you for your visit. I hope you will leave a comment, it's the only way I know you were here.

  12. Oh, how I would love to be in Venice for that festival. It must have been fantastic. I love your chick pulling the egg cart. That is the cutest Easter decoration ever. I came over from Rita's blog and I'm glad I did. I wouldn't have wanted to miss learning about the Bridge of Sighs. What a great name. It's so poetic that it takes one's imagination to a place of all sorts of fantastic impressions. Thank you for the MacKenzie-Child's give-away post. Reading your blog was an enjoyable thing to do on this dark late-winter afternoon. I no longer have a URL but my email is foxandfinch at A O L

  18. Well, I'm thrilled you went into your archives because I've never been to Venice but one of my favorite mystery series (Donna Leon's Brunetti mysteries) is set there and so this will help me visualize. And what a wonderful trip you had. This looks like it was during Carnivale. Wow -- what perfect timing. Did you see the Hallmark movie "The Wedding Veil: Legacy" that was on last week? Set in Venice! Don't worry -- it will be seen again-and again-and again!
