August blooms
Usually in August my flowers are few, having bloomed out due to our extremely hot and dry climate. This year we’ve had a bit of a break, not so hot and humid with a few cooler days arriving from fronts moving further south. With so many bright blue sunshiny days, my lilies have pleasantly surprised me, continuing to give me many lovely yellow blooms to enjoy. Other than the lilies, my containers continue to thrive and give a lot of color with coleus and trailing petunias. Let’s take a walk through the yard and I will show you what is blooming in the beds now.
The foliage is beginning to turn brown and the blooms are smaller now.
Yellow is my favorite color and what I always buy. Imagine my surprise when this red beauty bloomed!

QUEL JOLI JARDIN! Oh Emily, I agree that even here in Minnesota, we have had the most mild, most colorful summer we've seen in 18 years. My neighbor's day lilies were of the most gorgeous orange, and right now, my moon flower vine gives me white disks at night while my morning glories trumpet the joy of cobalt blue. Isn't this a great time of year?

ReplyDeleteEmily, your garden is full of beautiful color. I love the sunny yellow day lilies. Our golden thryallis is in full bloom, and it usually performs all summer and into fall. Love that shrub! The geraniums are still putting out some blooms, but they are much fewer and smaller. The white impatiens look wonderful, but I suspect as we heat up more and more they will decline. I'm surprised they have been so happy as they are. A few roses, but even those are not performing as usual.

ReplyDeleteHi Emily, Your garden is looking spectacular! The foliage is so pretty mixed in with the sweet flowers. Here in WA state things are beginning to look a bit spent as the summer will slowly draw to a close over the next month or so. Fall will bring it's own beauty and when it arrives, I'm always ready for it. I hope you are enjoying your week! xxleslie

I am reminded b y your pretty post to share the garden on my blog before it is gone completely for another year. Summer is flying by at much too fast a pace, hate time slipping away so quickly. Ugh.

Here in central Wisconsin, the petunias, are doing great, as are the nasturtiums, geraniums, impatiens, coleus, and my very very favorite Hydrangeas , are blooming in blue and pink. I have fillers. in my pots like verbena and spikes, and ferns, which are also doing great, (feed them every week) but I know by the end of next month, things will change. I planted several pink Peony bushes,this spring,but they didn't have flowers this year. So, hoping maybe next year, we just have to wait and see. I wish the season for flowers was longer here, only from June until August, but I'll take what I can get. (grin) I loved seeing your beautiful flowers..Thanks for sharing .Oh..do you know what I can plant to attract butterflies. I saw so few this year, and really miss them..

I very much enjoyed seeing your beautiful garden all in bloom. Daylilies, especially yellow ones, are among my favorites. I also have a burgundy one that I didn't know I had. Yours is a very pretty red. And lantana...love that plant!

ReplyDeleteI think I'm liking white crepe myrtles more and more. I have them in my yard and I think they look so bright and fresh. I only wish I could pick them and bring them indoors, but we know what a mess that would be. Your lilies are beautiful. What a gardener you are!
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks lovely, Emily--so many pretty flowers! Gardening is a challenge here between deer and rabbit visitors and the occasional hail storm. I am growing red geraniums in flowers pots, some vinca and also coleus. I also have perennials such as Russian sage, and purple wall flowers growing in my backyard--the deer don't bother them too much!
