FALL IS IN THE AIR
Kitty belongs to neighbor, and keeps me company while I'm outside
Poems by Emily Dickinson
Nature
XXVII.INDIAN SUMMER.These are the days when birds come back,
A very few, a bird or two,
To take a backward look. These are the days when skies put on
The old, old sophistries of June, --
A blue and gold mistake.Oh, fraud that cannot cheat the bee,
Almost thy plausibility
Induces my belief,Till ranks of seeds their witness bear,
And softly through the altered air
Hurries a timid leaf!Oh, sacrament of summer days,
Oh, last communion in the haze,
Permit a child to join,Thy sacred emblems to partake,
Thy consecrated bread to break,
Taste thine immortal wine!
Shadows dance across the house
In the deep south October brings the promise of glorious weather. My favorite time is usually early in the month when the morning air is cool and temperatures warm to about eighty degrees by afternoon. The sky turns a deep blue and long shadows fall across the house. This is know as an Indian Summer. If we are lucky this will last on and off until Thanksgiving. I enjoy adding a few touches for the season with flowers and candles on the porch. Come enjoy a lovely Indian Summer day with me.
Blue sky and eighty degrees
Crepe Myrtle foilage changing to red and yellow
Kitty and I are making photos and kitty looks up at a strange honking sound in the sky. A sure sign of fall, geese migrating south. This was a kodak moment for sure.
This beauty is out for a walk showing her new haircut to all
Not sure Kitty is happy about this
Fall color for the porch
All the shrubs and flowers get a second wind and will bloom until first frost
Flowers cover all the tabletops on the patio with new blooms
Flowers cover all the tabletops on the patio with new blooms
Mr. Rabbit is even enjoying the day
I am enjoying our October Indian Summer weather. I would love to hear what your October weather brings.

Beautiful photos! And everything looks gorgeous. Here in Michigan, with the exception of mums, we rarely have anything blooming. But, the weather has been in the 70's this week and the flowers are confused. LOL

HI, Your home and gardens are gorgeous! And I love all of your Fall decor. I especially love your red door. I had a red door at my previous home. Lived there for 22 years. I am missing that door! Haven't convinced hubby to let me paint my door here yet. "Too nice of wood". Kitty is so cute! How fun that he, or she comes to visit. The Indian Summer that you described is exactly what we have been having here lately. That is, until yesterday Mother Nature dumped snow on us. Yes, my yard was blanketed. Still cool and wet, but suppose to be back up in the upper 70's in the next few days. We went from 80's to 50's. Crazy! Enjoy that Indian Summer!
ReplyDeletehello there! You are surrounded by such lovely things! love your blog.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing a thought :)
Bon week-end!
Myric
Such beautiful pictures. I don't know what part of the deep south you are in, but we don't have geese in Central Florida. But the sky is a brilliant blue, and the shadows are cool and refreshing at this time of year.

Oh Emily it looks beautiful at your house! Are you really having temps in the 80's? It's raining and in the 50's-60's here *sighs* I think I need to move to the south! *winks* Vanna
ReplyDeleteEmily, your photos are spectacular! The Canada Geese are flying overhead around our parts too. But temps in the 80's we haven't had for ages. Happy Pink Saturday and thanks for sharing.

Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteI had to take a second look with the one of the flag. Thought it was moving. Ha
Days here are just right too. Crisp mornings and warms up in the 70's. Tee shirt and jeans...perfect. :)
Your front door and porch photos are beautiful. Love your crepe myrtles and lantana. Our lantana looks like it's on steroids. It looks more like a shrub than flowers even in this drought. Your neighbor's kitty is so sweet and you can tell she likes you. Love to see Canada geese when they fly. Fall is on the way. Yay!
ReplyDeleteHugs,

What an elegant red door, both in and out of shadows!

Yes, aren't the geese a welcoming Autumn sight and sound?
I suppose you could say we are having an Indian Summer here too, in SE Texas - October started out cool and crisp, and now has heated up again...but it did this in September, too...LOL. I remember September Indian Summers in NJ, it lasted about a week, and then was gone until next year.
Blessings,
Marianne
Wonderful pictures. I especially liked the way you captured the geese in flight. The dental molding over the front door in the pediment is perfect...I love that little detail. This is a perfect time of year...calm and serene.

Your home is so pretty! Hope to see you at My Dream Canvas.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos!1 You have a very beautiful home!!
ReplyDeleteWow you have very vivid and beautiful photos, and am also amazed at the number of comments you got! I always see posts from Europe mentioning of the Indian Summer, i am wondering how it started. Maybe those British soldiers who went to India love the summer in India and adopted the name when they returned, then it stuck even to others who haven't been to India yet. I love to see the Lantana camara thriving on very wide range of conditions, from temperate to the extreme tropics.
