HISTORIC HOME TOUR ~ KIRKWOOD MANSION

Pilgrimage Fall Home Tour

Experience the elegance and grandeur of the past in the historic town of Eutaw, Alabama. The annual Eutaw Pilgrimage sponsored by the local Historical Society was recently held over a two-day event. The town has over twenty-five structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places and more eligible for nomination. With so many types of architecture, Greek Revival, Victorian, Creole Cottages and many more, there is something for everyone. The tour will captivate you with grand old mansions, pastoral cottages and beautiful countryside. Also part of the event are antiques and gifts, home-baked goods and picnic boxed lunches to eat on the grounds.
Jim and I wanted to do this for years so Saturday morning we left early for the drive down. We toured three homes and spent most of the day enjoying this beautiful town. I made so many photographs I am going to do a post for each home we toured. This way I will be able to share more photographs to do each home justice.

If you missed the first tour,  go here to take the tour of White Columns.
If you missed the third and last tour, go here to take the tour of Myrtle Hall

Eutaw is named for Revolutionary War Hero, General Nathaniel Green. Green County was explored by De Soto in 1540 and claimed as French  Louisiana in 1699.
Jim and I enjoyed our day trip to Eutaw. These are some of the most beautifully preserved Historic homes in the south.

  1. I can't even decide which areas of the house I liked best. You know when I think of an historical plantation house in the south, this is what I would dream of...it is all so beautiful.

I also saw a pink dress this time I'd like to try on. Wouldn't you feel elegant wearing one of the dresses the Southern Belles are in?

  45. Happy Pink Saturday Emily Sweetie...
What a gorgeous share. Oh how I simply adored this tour. So beautiful. From those gorgeous columns at the front entryway to the grand floral arrangement when entering. Looking up the chandelier was so gorgeous. Loved seeing the beds with those elegant carvings and tops, oh my were they not beautiful. The color choices and the chairs in each, including that inviting settee. How beautiful.

I could hear the beautiful tunes from that carved piano. I have never seen anything so grand. Was that not the most beautiful thing ever? I loved that.

Now that bright red colored area carpet in the upstairs sitting room, along with the red chairs and that desk. How beautiful. Loved it. (Red is my favorite color.)

The sunflowers along the drive were so fun. Truly gets you into the autumn spirit does it not?

Emily thank you so much for taking me along, I so enjoyed myself. Hope you have a wonderful weekend sweetie. Country hugs and much love, Sherry

  46. Oh Emily, I am awestruck by all of this beauty! You've done such a lovely job of capturing this magnificent piece of architectural history. There are wonderful examples of fine art, design and craftsmanship everywhere! The porcelain pieces really captured my heart. They are so beautifully painted. The style of the furniture exudes elegance. The carvings are so richly ornate. I've never seen such a collection of well-preserved period furniture. The girls are so lovely in their gorgeous hooped dresses. Most of all, I'm longing for a beautiful summer day like that one. It is currently snowing here in Pennsylvania. We have about six inches on the ground and another 5 on the way! Thank you for taking the time to create such a wonderful post. I'll be looking at it again! Hugs, Terri
