London, Windsor and Eaton
Continuing with my travel posts, today we will visit London, Windsor and Eaton, UK.
With so much excitement about the Royal Wedding I thought it to be the perfect time for me to pull photographs from trips to London, Windsor, and Eaton. Windsor is about twenty miles west of London, and Eaton, just a walk across the bridge from Windsor over The River Thames.
While on a trip, Jim and I usually visit the popular tourist destinations, and we also venture off the beaten path to see the places important to us. We like to take day trips from our base city, this way we get a feel of cities and country villages. The people we meet along the way are as different as the towns we visit.
Today we'll tour London, then we'll take a day trip traveling by train to Windsor and Eaton.......I hope you enjoy your tour.

Walking toward the college we catch glimpses of the students wearing their traditional white tie and tailcoat and pinstripe trousers. This is not for special occasions, this is their uniform. It looks like everyone is dressed for the Prom!

Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey is where Prince William and Katherine Middleton will marry on Friday. Jim and I attended Sunday Service and Evensong here several times on our past trips. We toured the cathedral and visited The Poets' Corner where we saw the burial place of some of the most famous poets; Dryden, Tennyson, Browning , Dickens, Kipling and many others. If you get to London you don't want to miss this tour.

I feel very fortunate to have been in the Abbey to hear this beautiful music and boys choir sing. According to news reports the Westminster Boys Choir will sing at the wedding of Prince William and Katherine Middleton.

The BEST hot cocoa of my life was in the little cafe at the Globe Theatre--isn't it funny that I remember that???

Oh what a wonderful tour! It was fun to see all the sights of London town -- before the royal wedding!
ReplyDeleteThis brings back so many wonderful memories. We stayed at the Ritz the 10 days that we were in London. We had checked in late. What we didn't know is the Ritz always sells out of their double rooms early, and if you check in late they bump you up to one of their luxury suites for no extra cost. The suite of rooms was phenomenal, and it made for a trip of a lifetime. Thank you for sharing your marvelous photos. Cherry Kay

I looooooooooooove Buckingham Palace.
I truly oved the tour of London. I along with various members of my family have visited this beautiful city many times. My last trip, October 2010, was bittersweet because I was unable to walk the city as I once did. I did make use of public transportation and taxis but it wasn't like walking. I did get to ride the London Eye.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite experience was many years ago getting to see Pygmalion in 1984 with Peter O'Toole and Jackie Smith-Wood at the Shaftesbury Theatre.
Sadly the Shaftesbury is now dark after opening in 1911.

ReplyDeleteO..M...flippin...G! Here was I just sitting looking at your post, thinking "Oh look at all the familiar places", feeling very homesick when what appears but the house on the bridge. That is the very restaurant where my hubby proposed to me. I haven't been back there for 18 years.
ReplyDeleteWe have been living in New Zealand for 8 years and to be honest it has never really floated our boat. So all the images on your post are so good to see. We miss london so much. particularly the architecture. i'm so glad to see that nyou enjoyed it. I'm also glad to see that youndidntea at the Ritz...a complusory trip for any visitor to london. I hope you did a red bus tour aswell.
